 November 27, 2018 This year, you can support My Very Own Blanket on #GivingTuesday, the global giving movement that joins millions of people around the world who come together to support the causes they believe in.
Your gift on #GivingTuesday will help MVOB provide handmade blankets to the thousands of children who must enter emergency shelters and foster care with no belongings of their own. We can't take away the difficulties they have endured, but we can provide them with immediate comfort with a cuddly blanket they can keep wherever they go. Watch for more information as we get closer to November 27!  Will you gather with family and friends for the holidays? Here's an idea for something to do after dinner -- make "No-Sew" fleece blankets! It's easy and fun for folks of almost any age. Each blanket takes about 40 minutes. All you have to do is cut fringe with scissors and tie knots. Find simple instructions at the link below.
Sponsor a MVOB fleece kit for $10. Pick up your supplies from us (everything but scissors) in less than 10 minutes. Make your blankets and add the makers' first names to the special tags we supply. Drop off finished blankets to MVOB. That's it! Any number of blankets is appreciated; each one will help comfort a child in foster care. "No-sew" fleece blanket instructions  Here is one of the winners of a PCSAO "Rising Up & Moving On" award with her new MVOB blanket. My Very Own Blanket donated 150 blankets to the September 2018 Conference of the Public Children Services Association of Ohio (PCSAO). PCSAO advocates for safe children, stable families, and supportive communities.
The three-day conference drew more than 500 Ohio child protection professionals, who took bags of blankets back to their agencies to take to foster kids in their counties. Blankets were also given at the conference to winners of the PCSAO "Rising Up & Moving On" awards. The awards are given to young people who have come through the foster care system, overcome many challenges and are successfully moving toward independent living.
