Please keep in mind that the blanket you are making may become a child's cherished possession, comforting them for years. Please make your blanket as if it is a gift for someone you know and love.
This is a no-sew fleece blanket kit. It contains 1.5 yards of fleece with our special tag already attached, a fringe cutting template and directions.
We try to make the process very simple and to make sure our Blanket Angels get good directions. But sometimes things go awry, and we receive completed blankets that need some TLC before we can give them to a child in foster care.
The blankets below illustrate several problems that we ask Blanket Angels to avoid:
selvedges not removed from fleece you have purchased
fringe cut on all four blanket sides (fringe on TWO OPPOSITE SIDES ONLY)
fringe cut into the pre-attached tag
fringe pieces that are tied together, resulting in a blanket that will not lie flat
Cut fringe on 2 opposite sides. Don't tie fringe together.
Don't cut fringe on the side where the tag is sewn - or the side opposite.
The selvedges (narrow, tightly woven borders on the ends of the fabric that prevent it from unravelling) have not been removed from this fleece, resulting in fringe with ends that aren't smooth. Please cut off the selvedges before you begin cutting fringe. This step is not necessary when you use an MVOB fleece kit. We remove the selvedges for you.
Don't cut fringe on the side where the tag has been sewn. Tie knots about 1/2" from blanket edge to avoid bunching.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT OUR FLEECE BLANKETS:
Use only one layer of fleece.
Cut fringe at TWO opposite ends*
Tie one knot in each fringe.
Use 1" x 4" fringe cutting template to avoid uneven-length fringe.
Use our 1" x 4" fringe cutting template to avoid cutting fringe of different lengths.
Please keep blankets away from pet hair.
On the tag, fill in YOUR first name after "Handmade by."
On the tag, LEAVE THE TOP LINE BLANK for the child to complete.
Leave first line BLANK for youth to add their name.
An individual name is preferable to the name of a group or organization.
While we understand your seasonal good wishes, please understand that it may be several months before your blanket makes its way into the hands of a child.
