Anna created the idea for a blanket birthday party as part of earning her Girl Scout Silver Award in June 2021.  We were happy to be partners with Anna in providing comfort and love for children in foster care.

It’s easy for kids to help kids in foster care ​with My Very Own Blanket!

Do you want to get involved in supporting your community?  Do you want to help others?  

​A great way to help is to ask friends & family to make or donate a special blanket to children in foster care instead of regular birthday presents.   There are a few ways to do that.
  1. You can have a birthday party anywhere and use this invitation to ask guests to bring a blanket instead of a gift.
  2. You can have a birthday party anywhere and make blankets together as a party activity.  Get a blanket-making party invitation here.

If you would like to celebrate your birthday in a non-traditional way, by helping others in your community, consider inviting friends and family to support you by giving you the gift of a “no-sew” fleece blanket making kit that you can use to make blankets for children and teens in foster care and in need near you! 

Here's how it works.


  • We will set up a special webpage just for your celebration that contains your invitation, a photo if you wish, instructions, and a link for blanket kit orders. There will be a direct "Happy Birthday" link to your page on our main menu.  See example page
  • We will promote your birthday celebration across our social media sites.
  • ​We will give you the link to your page, and you can send it to your guests so they can place their orders, no matter where they live.  We will ship the blanket kits to you. 
  • You can make the blankets, or if you wish, you can host a gathering of friends who live near you so you can work on the blankets together.
  • If you wish, you can set a goal for the number of blankets you want to complete. We will keep track of the orders and post the progress on your celebration page. 
  • When your blankets are completed, you can donate them to a local agency that supports children and teens in foster care. If you need help finding a local agency, you can consult our list of agencies organized by state and county.
