Tips for making fleece blankets from our kits

Please keep in mind that you are creating a lasting gift for a child in foster care. The blanket you are making may become a child's cherished possession, comforting them for years. Please make your blanket as if it is a gift for someone you know and love.  ​

Please do this!

Correctly completed fleece blanket

YES!

YES! Fringe cut and knotted so that blanket edges lie flat.

YES! Cut and knot fringe so the edges of the blanket are flat and straight.

Not this!

NO! Don't cut fringe on the side where the tag has been sewn. Follow the sample fringe that have been cut on 2 sides of the fleece. Tie knots about 1/2" from blanket edge to avoid bunching,.

NO! Don't cut fringe on the side where the tag is sewn - or on the opposite side. Cut only on the 2 sides where sample fringe have been cut.

NO! Our kits have tags pre-attached. When fringe cut in the correct length and location, you won't cut into the tag.

Or this!

NO! Do not tie fringe to each other. Tie fringe so blanket edges lie flat.

NO! The selvedges have not been removed from this fleece, resulting in fringe with ragged edges. Please remove selvedges before you cut fringe. This step not necessary when you use our kit. We remove selvedges for you.

Don't write on tag top line. "This belongs to" is for the child who receives the blanket to enter their name. You sign after "Handmade by."

NO! Don't mark fringe cutting lines. Use the cutting template instead.

NO! Tags need to be sewn onto your completed blanket.

 

RECEIVING YOUR BLANKET KITS

• PICK UP IF YOU LIVE NEAR WESTERVILLE

If you live within 30 miles of Westerville we encourage you to pick up your kits at our workshop. We are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday - Friday. Your order will be ready 2-3 days after it is placed.

If you cannot pick up during those times, we can leave your order in our curbside brown bins so you can pick up at your convenience.

Just let us know that you will pick up after hours in the Comments box when you place your order.
