Our Blanket Angel Coordinators are spread across the U.S.

Picture
Each heart represents at least one Blanket Angel Coordinator working in her or his state (or outside of Central Ohio) to provide handmade blankets for children in foster care living nearby.  We are thrilled that our map has 30 hearts, representing more than 70 Blanket Angel Coordinators across the United States.
Blanket Angel Coordinator Resources
What is a Blanket Angel Coordinator?
Our Blanket Angel Coordinators (BAC) are supporters who are committed to helping children in foster care feel valued, comforted and loved by providing handmade blankets to children in their area, not just once but throughout the whole year. Most, but not all, live outside of Central Ohio. Some work by themselves, and some coordinate and help others make blankets.  BACs organize “Blanket Making” events with friends, family, businesses, church groups or others!

The one thing that sets BACs apart is that they donate the blankets they make to children who live in their own area, spreading our mission and ministry across the country, far from our workshop in Westerville, Ohio.

Join the BAC Team
We continue to be blessed by the support of a growing number of Blanket Angel Coordinators (BACs) – supporters who live outside of Central Ohio and create blankets for children in foster care in their hometown. Whether you make a few blankets or your group makes many, each one of you is “sew” appreciated.

You are invited to join—or renew your membership on—our BAC team with an annual membership of just $25. With this commitment you will help support our mission and be an official member of our BAC team, providing love, comfort and hope to children in foster care all over the U.S!

The photos below show Michelle, our Blanket Angel Coordinator in Independence, Missouri, with members of the Relief Society and Young Women from the Independence 1st ward in Independence Missouri Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These women have made more than 200 blankets recently. One of the ladies made 50 by herself. She has found peace in serving while going through chemo. The blankets will be donated to FosterAdopt Connect, serving abused and neglected children and the families caring for them in Missouri and Kansas.

We provide support by sending our special tags and helping our BACs get in touch with children’s services and agencies in their area.  We are also available to answer questions at any time by phone 614-530-3327 or email at  info@myveryownblanket.org.

We are blessed to have Blanket Angel Coordinators all over Ohio and in 26 other states.  If you are interested in becoming a BAC, we would be glad to talk to you about how to get started!  Call 614-530-3327 or email info@myveryownblanket.org.

The Hamilton County, Ohio Job and Family Services Adoption & Foster Care Recruitment agency sent us their thanks and this photo of some of the blankets donated to them by Carol, our Blanket Angel Coordinator in Lebanon, Ohio.  The blankets were made by Carol and her friends.

"How cute are these new blankets we just got from My Very Own Blanket? Thanks to Carolyn K. and her friends, who volunteer their time to make these for the littlest ones who come through our doors."

Blanket Giving Goal!!
This is just one more important part!  Let us know how many blankets you make and give and we will add it to our Blanket Giving Goal for the year!  And don’t forget to take lots of pictures and send to us!  We will post them on our Facebook page so together we can spread the Good News of our work!
These whimsical quilts, sure to be cherished by a young child, were made for MVOB by Claudette, who lives in Grand Isle, Maine.

About Our Blankets

Sewn, Knitted or Crocheted Blankets

We accept new blankets that are sewn with material (cotton, flannel, fleece and other materials appropriate for a child), yarn blankets that are knitted or crocheted and “no-sew” fleece blankets.  Please do not attach anything to your blankets such as buttons that could be a choking hazard, or ribbons, strings or other items that are more than 4" long.

“No-Sew" Fleece Blankets
If you are making fleece blankets, we encourage you to sponsor our “no-sew” blanket making kits, as a very small portion of the $10 cost will help us continue our mission and ministry.  We offer free shipping for all blanket kits, thanks to the support of our shipping partners at United Health Care Community Plan in Ohio.

Our “no-sew” fleece blankets are made from a 1.5-yard length of fleece. Caseworkers have expressed a preference for
single layer fleece blankets. Due to the size and weight of double layer blankets, they are limited to giving them to older children. Single layer blankets can be given to toddlers on up to teenage youth and fit nicely in a brand new backpack or duffle bag.

This method of making a blanket is quick and easy.     How to make a fleece blanket

Blanket Size
Our blankets are given to children and youth of all ages -- infants up to teenage youth.  Approximate dimensions: 36” x 36” (small), 40” x 50-60” (medium), 60” x 80” (large).  These measurements are suggestions and can vary.

Colors, Patterns, Themes
All colors, themes and patterns appropriate for children & youth are acceptable. We do ask that you avoid themes related to violence or war (guns, knives, soldiers, etc.), drugs/alcohol, or logos/images related to causes (such as cancer ribbons).   Blankets should not have any embellishments such as pockets, beads, zippers or buttons.  All blankets should be machine washable and dryable.

Special tags – You can order our special tags on our website and we will ship them to you.  You can attach them to the blankets, and they will be ready for you to donate to children in foster care in your area!

It’s simple to do.  Here’s how:
Sign your first name with permanent marker on our special tag after the heart that says “Handmade by.” We encourage you to add a message to the child if you wish. This will show the child in foster care who receives your blanket that someone truly made this “just for them!”

Picture
To sew the tag on the blanket:

The tags are sewn on the back of the blanket, near a corner, at least 3” from both edges.
You can use a straight or zigzag stitch, sewing ¼ - ½” in from all four edges of the tag.  You can use white thread or thread that coordinates with the blanket color.

In the video below, MVOB Founder Jessica Rudolph shows how labels are attached to blankets.
