Adam and his colleagues at expRealty held a blanket-making event at Brew Dog Brewery where they enjoyed spending the evening together and making 30 blankets for MVOB! Adam and his wife were motivated by their experience fostering to adopt a child. We are thrilled that they have become supporters.
Belongings in a paper bag
In this video, Betty tells us the story of her husband that contains echoes of the stories of so many children entering foster care with their belongings in trash bags. Her work with MVOB is in honor of her late husband.
Hear Jessica on the Fostering Change Podcast
In late 2022, Jessica Rudolph participated in a podcast, Fostering Change, with the founder of Comfort Cases, Rob Scheer. Hear the story of the founding of MVOB, the evolution of the special tags, the plans MVOB has to expand into other countries and how people across the U.S. can get involved in our mission. The Fostering Change podcast sponsor is Comfort Cases, one of our non-profit partners. A handmade blanket, and other comfort and personal care items, are included in each of the backpacks they provide for youth entering the foster care system, who often have to carry their belongings in trash bags. Your blankets help make these backpacks something of "their very own" that comforts the children on their often-traumatic journey through the foster care system.
In this video, Jessica gives the basics about how our special tags are attached to completed blankets.
Box of scraps becomes 6 beautiful quilts
Starting with a big box of small fabric scraps, our Blanket Angel Kay created six beautiful, unique quilts for children in foster care. Jessica and Kay tell us about it here. And two of the quilts are a-maze-ing!
This video about the value of community service includes My Very Own Blanket. Just Serve, an online service which connects volunteers with service opportunities in their area, is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Quilts made from circle blocks
Debbie stopped in recently to donate seven quilts. Two beautiful and unique ones made entirely from circle blocks caught our eye. We asked her to describe how it's done in case you might want to try it for yourself. You can see the Missouri Star video Debbie refers to here: https://youtu.be/3ZFNa8lH_9Q.
How to make a "no-sew" fleece blanket
In this short video, Jessica shows the easy steps in creating a fleece blanket. The only tools you need are your hands and a pair of scissors!
