Amanda L., pictured above with Jessica Rudolph, donating blankets she made recently, posted this story on Facebook in April:
Over the past several years, I have made it my personal goal to make #ABlanketADayInMay to give to a child in foster care through the wonderful organization My Very Own Blanket. May is National Foster Care Awareness month, and it is my way of bringing awareness to a system that I didn't know much about. I am asking my family and friends to sponsor a day by covering the $12 cost it takes to make each blanket! Let me know if you would like to be involved and I will give you more information. The $12 will go to My Very Own Blanket who will provide the material needed to make each blanket. You can give me cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal for the blankets you would like to cover and I will do the rest! Through the support of my friends and family, I have been able to complete 243 blankets over the years to give to children who do not have many things to call their own. I still remember the blanket that I carried around as a child and how much comfort it brought me, and that is the goal to bring comfort and security to those children in the foster care system. It has been a positive thing for me to focus on and connect with people over, and I hope it can bring joy to the those who receive them!
